I offer myself as a flexible "value added"
Finance & Administration resource. Using my experience in successfully
managing the European operations of US high growth companies, I advise
a handful of clients in developing and setting up their European operations.
I am a successful business director in the European Technology sector,
a qualified Chartered Accountant with fifteen years post qualification
experience, possessing a strong entrepreneurial flair.
I operate as either a medium term part time resource
with a success orientated fee arrangement or a short-term consultancy
resource on a fixed daily rate.
In April 1999 I was appointed European Finance Director
of Phone.com Europe (now Openwave Systems Europe), a leading provider
of telecommunications infrastructure software, at the start of a period
of explosive growth. As part of the European Management Team, I helped
the European business grow from 10 to 500 staff in 2 years. In this time
we completed four acquisitions, a merger and set up operations in most
major European countries. Perhaps most importantly we grew revenues from
$0.5m to $15m per quarter and never missed a quarterly revenue or operating
expenses target.
Phone.com Europe operated with distributed staffing
and to achieve successful sales across the region we employed staff from
several countries. From a basic set of principles I have developed, I
dealt with the implications of employing people in various regions and
set up the necessary legal and benefit structures. This allowed the distributed
staff to concentrate on growing the business.
Previously, in August 1996, I was appointed as Director
of Finance of XcelleNet International, a leading provider of Remote Systems
Management Software, as part of a strategy to substantially increase the
value of the International business. As Director, and part of the Management
Team, I had responsibility for Finance, Legal, Human Resources, Facilities
and Administration of the International business, based in the UK but
with three other subsidiaries.
I have successfully implemented business systems and
procedures that have underpinned major growth, whilst enabling the US
parent to maintain control. I have increased efficiency, enhanced internal
operations and made it easier for our customers to deal with us and order
our products.
My success is derived from an ability to combine the
focus and flexibility required to plan/manage rapid growth, with strong
financial disciplines. This is fundamental in putting together realistic
plans and executing with no surprises.
I have a passion for exceeding expectations, the intellectual
capacity and tenacity to find solutions to business problems and an ability
to get the best out of my direct reports and colleagues. I thrive in an
environment of rapid and continuous change, where I can make a real difference
to the success of the business.
A summary of my previous career is as follows:
